Coming from perhaps the farthest west planting in the Sta. Rita Hills appellation, the vines benefit from increased coastal influence and cooling breezes.
Aged for 11 months in 2-3-year-old French barrels, the wine drinks like a cold-climate Syrah in its body and poise. It does not have any hint of over-ripeness and is reminiscent of the Syrahs produced in the Northern Rhone. Purple in colour, the wine is alive and vibrant, dominated by fresh black fruits. The classic syrah pepperiness comes into play later on alongside flavours of blood sausage, liquorice, blackcurrant cassis and a resounding, wonderful savoury aspect running through it. Youthful, and will age for a very long time if you can stop yourself from opening what you have. 150 cases produced.
