Il Poggione, Brunello di Montalcino 2017 6 Bottle Case 75cl

Il Poggione covers 530 hectares in Sant’Angelo in Colle, around 10km south of the Montalcino village. 140 ha are planted with Sangiovese vines, and altitudes range from 150-450m above sea level. 50 ha of land are planted with olive trees. Many sustainable methods are employed in the vineyard, and most recently solar panels were installed on the winery roof. The Brunello ferments at 25-28C with indigenous yeast in stainless steel tanks with the submerged cap technique for 15-20 days. Maturation then lasts for minimum 24 months in French oak barrels and is followed by a period of bottle ageing before being released onto the market. Poggione is a delicious Brunello, halfway in style between modern and traditional producers in that it has the firm structure and spice lift which the French oak contributes but with the purity and primary fruit aromatics (red cherries, herbs, savoury notes) given equal weight.
