A pale and fresh flavoured organic Georgian red made with an indigenous grape variety

Georgia, sandwiched between Russia and Turkey on the eastern shores of the Black Sea is one of the ancient homelands of vine cultivation. And, although not much seen in the west, there is some really interesting wine being produced here, especially by small producers such as Ramaz Nikoladze who use traditional techniques. The Aladasturi grape, native to Georgia, was widespread before the onset of phylloxera, but is a bit of a rarity these days. It makes quite a pale coloured wine - almost a dark rosé, but being aged and fermented in traditional qvevri - egg shaped terracotta vessels - it's gained some black cherry aromas with a subtle pepperiness and hints of tobacco making it a very bright, fresh and delicately flavoured wine.

A well made light and delicate wine best served slightly below room temperature.

A few must haves
