Otto Dal Zotto emigrated from Valdobbiadene in 1967 and like many of his compatriots settled down to farm in Victoria’s King Valley. Here in the alpine foothills, Otto originally farmed tobacco before turning to grapes in 1987 and soon after he and his sons Michael and Christian became early pioneers of Italian varieties such as the grape now known in the EU as Glera, which they were the first to plant in 1999. Nowadays it is their calling card alongside other varieties well-suited to this cooler climate a few hours’ drive north of Melbourne.
