Biodynamic wine from Franciacorta, very little added sulphites, spontaneous re-fermentation in bottle, semi-sparkling, dry, very tempting fizz. This cheeky little baby Franciacorta is a fantastic bottle of natural bubbles. It is made from biodynamically farmed Chardonnay grapes in the Franciacorta region in the hills just north of Brescia in Lombardy. 1701 produce DOCg Franciacorta too but this unclassified wine is perhaps the bargain of the bunch, dry, frothy, zippy and fruity with just a note of funk, it makes a great aperol.
1701 Franciacorta is a 10 ha biodynamic certified winery. As members of Renaissance des Appellations they follow biodynamic farming methods for all their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards. They produce Franciacorta Brut, Saten and Rose and a Vintage Dosaggio Zero in exceptional years. The range also includes Sullerba, a semi-sparkling Chardonnay 'sur lie' which is great fun, totally un-touched during the wine making and excellent value.
