The Vergelesses vineyard produces highly-perfumed wines, a mix of delicate fruit aromas and spicy undertones with a brambly edge. On the palate, a backbone of refreshing acidity and fine but firm tannins provide a balanced structure to this charming wine.
The Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er cru Aux Vergelesses (commonly called Savigny Vergelesses) is one of the best 1er crus from Savigny-lès-Beaune. Facing the Mont Blanc in the east it is above the Ile de Vergelesses, a 1er cru vineyard of Pernand Vergelesses. The vineyard is on a fairly steep slope, well-drained and the soil is argilo calcareous marl. Vines for the 'Savigny Vergelesses' are between 25 and 50 years old.
Small parcels of low-yielding fruit were hand picked and 100% de-stemmed. Indigenous yeast fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks where a combination of gentle pump overs and punch downs were employed as needed. The wine was matured in 100% French oak barriques, 17% of which were new. The wine was racked once to tank before bottling unfined and unfiltered during the first week of December.
