Jacques Maillet, Vin de Savoie Chautagne ”Mondeuse” 6 Bottle Case 75cl

Equivalent Bottle Price £39.99

Following decades of stunning winemaking, Jacques Maillet has retired. The 2015 Mondeuse is a true testament to his work. The Mondeuse grape is considered the cool climate cousin of Syrah; this grape gives an incredible concentration of fruit and spice, making it a great alternative to red burgundy.

Match it with: Grilled lobster, veal or poultry

Terroir: Sandstone and molasse. Plots situated in Motz.

Average age of vines: 50 years old

Vinification: Whole-bunch maceration for 4-5 weeks // no pump over // no sulphites added during  vinification and ageing // ageing on the lees for 9 months // slight filtration // 1 g/hL sulphites added at bottling.

It was while working conventionally for the local wine coop that Jacques developed a cancer because of the chemicals he was spraying on his vines. It took three years for him to get well enough to start farming again. When he did, he did so for himself and ‘Autrement’, or differently. His vineyards are on two lieu-dits overlooking the Rhône river, Les Vignes du Seigneurs and Le Cellier des Pauvres, and account for about 5 hectares. His wines are liquid purity.

A few must haves
