Organic wine, 100% Cannonau, smooth, earthy red from Sardinia, bags of character and meat stock aroma. Cannonau which ages very well, this younger bottling has a long way to go, still very vibrant and fresh with red and black fruit aromas and the underlying animal aroma often found in great Sardinian red wine. This is a wine which will endure and will deeper, darker and much more complex after 10 years in bottle. Still, it drinks well now and shows the authentic flavour of Cannonau and Sardinia.
Mamoiada is a small Sardinian village situated in the heart of the Barbagia. It is here that the Sedilesu wine farm was established when Giuseppe and his wife Grazia planted their first hectare of vines over 30 years ago. Now, the farm has 15 hectares under vines, mainly Cannonau (the same grape as Grenache) trained as bush vines and farmed organically. The soils are decayed granite with small amounts of clay and humus. They are rich in potassium and phosphorous for fertility but poor in nitrogen. The vineyards are situated at various heights with an average of 600m above sea level and the yields are very low particularly in the older plots. Giuseppe, now 80 years old still works on his farm and supervises the vineyard work while his son, Giuseppe, works as wine maker. This is a family affair, an attachment to the land and a commitment to quality ensures pure and authentic wines which represent Sardinia and match very well with the foods of the Island like Porchetta and Potatoes.
