"A stylish, low-intervention white with sliced apple skins, pears and cedar. Medium to full body. Light oxidation. This is a fun, tasty, skin-contact white from trebbiano, malvasia bianco and ansonica." JAMES SUCKLING
This Trebbiano, macerated in cement tank, is a real orange wine: copper yellow with amber reflections. Oxidative style with the scent of pome fruit, nuts and gingerbread. Then on the palate, a lovely freshness of yellow apple and pear, underpinned by a delicate acid wire. Not an off-the-peg wine, but all the more an experience that sticks!
The Ampeleia estate began its life in the 1960s when the land was bought by a Swiss couple. In 2002 the estate was taken over by Elisabetta Foradori, Thomas Widmann and Giovanni Podini, who wanted to demonstrate the diversity and potential of the region. Although they own around 120 hectares of land, only 35 hectares are currently under vine. Spread over 3 distinct altitudes, each with different soils and used to grow different grape varieties. Marco Tait has been responsible for the winemaking since the beginning of the project and continues to do so with minimal intervention, aiming to preserve the essence of the fruit and the expression of the land.
