Thanks to their enthusiasm and their acute sensitivity to working with the environment, Christophe and Martine Réthoré and their cousin Jean-Michel decided to practice sustainable farming in order to maximise the expression of their fruit harvested from a wide geological diversity of its soils. The only vigneron within the commune of Saint-Rémy-en-Mauges, to the south of Ancenis, Domaine Réthoré Davy has selected and planted their vines on the best sites on top of the best hillsides.
Four different vineyard slopes, with four different aspects and four different soils are matched with as many as 7 grape varieties at this fascinating family-owned and run estate. The estate’s Gamay and Pinot Noir in particular thrive in the schist soils. The domaine’s prestigious location, combined with expert knowledge and respectful wine-growing methods, have led the estate to win numerous awards over the last few years.
