Volcanique Rouge Cave Verdier-Logel, organic wine, rare Cotes du Forez appellation, 100% Gamay, volcanic soils, tension, energy, freshness, but also full body and rich flavour. On the volcanic soils, the Gamay is a little fuller than the granite, textured, deep red fruits, notes of spice, stunning texture and body but also real tension, fantastic Gamay wine for Terrines.
The Cave Verdier-Logel is the product of years of hard work from husband and wife team, Jacky Logel and Odile Verdier. They moved to Mulhouse but spent their holidays in the Cotes du Forez region near Clermont Ferrand in the massif central and one day decided to change their lives and purchased a few hectares of vines. Jacky studied a course in Oenologie and they made their first vintage in 1992. The domaine now stretches over 17 hectares and is planted to Gamay, Viognier and Pinot Gris (Jacky comes from Alsace!). They have always worked organically and make the wines with low intervention to truthfully express their distinctive terroirs. These are delicious expressions of Gamay from the southern most extremity of the department of the Loire, only 100km from Lyon but also firmly nestled in the mountains of the Massif Central. A slightly forgotten wine region of France, the vines lie at between 400 and 600 metres above sea level in an unspoilt and pure environment. They make 3 expressions of Gamay, Gourmets is on the Granitic soils and gives a wine of nerve, tension with a light, fruity palate. The Volcanique on volcanic soils with a basalt salt outcrops is also full of tension and energy but with a deeper richness and texture. Finally Poycelan from a single parcel of old vines on Volcanic soils is richer and deep, a core of dark fruits wrapped in fresher red fruits and spice. Fine fine red wines and outstanding value for money.
