Jane Eyre, Gevrey-Chambertin

Jane's Gevrey-Chambertin is an impressive expression of this prime Cru in the Côte de Nuits. The nose has cherry aromas, wild savoury characters with some trademark earthy Gevrey notes. The wine is well-balanced and accessible with lovely dark cherry and raspberry fruit on the palate, fine grained tannins and a lasting finish.

As a micro-négotiant, Jane works with some of Burgundy’s top growers, allowing her to secure parcels of fruit that beautifully showcase the complex and alluring sub-regions of Burgundy. The fruit for this wine is sourced from two vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin: Combe du Dessus, which is just opposite the Château of Chambertin, and En Champs a little further along the slope opposite the Les Champeaux 1er Cru vineyard. The soils have a limestone base with marl, clay, schist and granite. The vines are between 35 and 55 years old.

The small parcels of fruit were hand harvested and 30% whole bunch was used in the ferments. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts took place in stainless steel tanks with a combination of gentle pump overs and punch downs. Post fermentation, the wine was transferred to French oak barriques (20% new) where it aged for 14 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered during the last week of December.

A few must haves
