Although the area of Dogliani has no Barolo vineyards, just a cock-stride away is Monforte d'Alba, one of the finest Barolo villages together with Castiglione Falletto. The vineyards here are at a lower altitude and thus more suitable to the Nebbiolo grape and to making Barolo. The vines range in age from 35 to 50 years of age and now produce suberb fruit that really delivers the style of wines from Castiglione Falletto. This is a first class and stylish red wine that has notes of raw meat alongside the tell-tale aromas of violets and tar. On the palate it is full and generous with good balancing acidity and bold tannins All in all it is a superb wine, generous yet elegant and just the thing for those hearty meals.
