We welcome the return of the idiosyncratic wines of Emidio Pepe to our list. The wines are some of Southern Italy's most extraordinary, distinctive, and downright brilliant wines. His white has the capacity to age for decades, perhaps one of Italy's most ageworthy whites. A rich and powerful white, yet it's still lively with citrus notes and complex notes of almond paste, hazelnuts and white flowers. This is a real rarity which we only have a few bottles of, so grab them when you see them.
Founded in 1899, the art of wine in the Pepe family has been handed down from father to son for 4 generations. The grapes were sold to the local cooperative until 1964 when Emidio decided their fruit was too good for the coop. He was the very first to bottle his own wine in the region. The 15-hectare estate is nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine mountains and that makes very interesting climatic conditions for growing Montepulciano and Trebbiano grapes. Biodynamically cultivated with minute attention to detail and traditional winemaking methods, Emidio Pepe’s wines are a true expression of the Abruzzo terroir.
