It’s generally unusual to find these two grapes, Ploussard and Trousseau, blended together like this but maybe that’s because most winemakers don’t have Patrice Hughes-Beguet’s keen eye for balance. This is, as the name suggests, a beautifully glossy, blue-fruited, fine-boned wine.
Silk Blue is an intensely aromatic and vivid Poulsard with swirling aromas of wild strawberry, cranberry, black pepper and violets. Silky and fresh on the palate with an underlying earthiness and a long finish.
Patrice Hughes Beguet is one of seemingly many relatively recent Jura transplants who fled desk jobs in big cities to make their home in this wild, sub-Alpine corner of France. Obviously the characterful local varieties (Savagnin, Trousseau, Poul/Plou-ssard) are a big draw for any aspiring winemakers, and Patrice handles them with all the familiarity and grace of one of the region’s stalwart producers - making dependably delicious, often experimental wines vintage-in, vintage-out.
